It takes all of us
to save a mother.
Partners, families, community health promoters and neighbours each have a part to play in getting mothers and babies the care they need.
Fathers and partners
Be there — from the first check-up
Partners who are involved help mothers get care earlier and recover better.
- Go with her to antenatal visits
- Help make the birth plan and save for transport
- Learn the danger signs — you may be the one who has to act
- Share the work at home so she can rest
- Support breastfeeding, and notice if she seems very low after birth

Families
Don't wait — the first delay costs lives
Many mothers and babies die because the decision to seek care came too late. When you see a danger sign, go to a facility at once. Waiting to see if it gets better is the biggest risk.
- Agree in advance who will decide and who will pay for transport
- Never delay because of cost — ask about maternity cover at the facility
- Support her choice to give birth in a health facility

Community health promoters
Your link to care
Community health promoters (CHPs) are trained members of your community. They visit homes, find pregnant women early and help families reach care.
- Home visits during pregnancy and after birth
- Advice on nutrition, breastfeeding and newborn care
- Referral to the health facility when there is a danger sign
- Follow-up after mother and baby come home

Community leaders
Start the conversation
The EWENE campaign aims to reach at least 5 million households by 2028. Chiefs, faith leaders, teachers, boda boda riders and women's groups can help every family know what to do.
- Share the danger signs at barazas, churches and mosques
- Help organise emergency transport in your area
- Speak up for respectful, quality care at your local facility
